The Guys Behind Anvil Teach a Cocktail Class

One tequila. Two tequila. Three tequila. Score.

The Pastry War
319 Main St

You order your coke diet and always sub fries for a salad. But you’d never let another Texan hear you ask for a skinny margarita.

Pull up a stool and get to school with new Bar Top Tastings at The Pastry War, the downtown hot spot from the owners of Anvil. Every other Tuesday the sip experts at the “Mezcaleria” spend 90 minutes educating 12 students with tastings of mescal, tequila and other traditional Mexican bevs. Take in the eclectic décor (a Volkswagen is attached to one wall, a mural by local artist Carlos Hernandez on another). Named for the French-Mexican conflict that destroyed a bakery, the bar takes their tequilas so seriously they list the brands they refuse to serve on the wall - including some well-known names.

You'll never put your pride on the rocks.

Next class: January 21, 7 p.m. $55. Reservations must be made in person in advance at The Pastry War.
